Our web design service is primarily aimed at the client who is looking for a strong web presence but does not want to pay a fortune. A well optimised, W3C compliant, well designed and well authored website should not be a cost to your business : quite the reverse, it should be an investment that repays you many times over.
At One Step Ahead our approach is slightly different. We believe the place to start when designing a web site is the search engines. By that we mean that we build our web sites with the search engines in mind from the very start. We could build very flashy sites with lots of latest technology and all-singing, all-dancing features but does that help the search engines to spider your web site? NO! The more clutter that is included in the build of a site, the harder it is for the search engine bots to get through it.
We like good design - of course we do. But we also like to see the search engines spidering our clients' sites every day as well! In our view, search-engine-friendly design does not have to mean boring, but we do tend to avoid the use of verbose Javascript™ functions and rather meaningless Flash™ movies/ intros, which we feel only serve to brass off the visitor.
Good web design has to encompass and balance a variety of criteria : good clean coding (behind the scenes stuff), usability (your visitors), search engine friendliness, good optimisation (not the same thing at all!), and please your visitors to the degree that they stay on your web site, rather than flit off to your competitor's site.
At One Step Ahead, we embrace all of these considerations with equal importance. We feel our web sites achieve the right balance between visitor, search engines and code validation. We also believe that a potential customer, looking for your product or service, is more focused on his/ her search than on the technical merits of your web site. Should commercial or business web sites (as opposed to those personal home pages built for fun) simply be reflections of the designer's ego and technical capabilities? Or should they be designed for the visitor's ease of use and enjoyment? When the pasta water's about to boil over, you actually don't have much time to spend wading through endless pages of drivel.
